Series Lesson: Moo Blues with Lucy and Sam
All of June we’ll be offering a sampler of lessons featuring new teachers and topics each week. This week, Sam Russel and Lucy Bellwood will be focus on improving connection your partner and the music, as well as playing with tempo. Here’s their description.
“In this lesson we’ll be stretching out our blues with a few simple exercises designed to improve connection between you, your partner, and the music. Most dancers are familiar with getting their groove on at a certain speed, but when the blues turns lingering and long, how slow can you go?
We’ll discuss connection in open and closed position as well as the importance of intentional movement. We’ll also bring in some basic feedback practices to help open dialogue about our dancing on the floor. Asking for feedback during a dance can shed light on aspects of your movement that might need some attention, or help you better understand your strengths as a dancer. It’s a great way for leads and follows of all levels to help each other shine, and we’ll be ending the class with several practice songs where you can give it a shot.

Blues Documentary: Music From The Big House
Starting June 22nd, a documentary on blues will be playing at the Hollywood Theatre. Music from the Big House is a film about the music that inmates serving life sentences at what once was America’s bloodiest prison have created to help transform their lives. Check out the trailer here
