Series Lesson: w/ Catherine Liggett
This month, we’re featuring local legends Catherine Liggett and Rudy Resch. They will be teaching their highly requested series on close embrace to help deal with limited space.

This week, they will be teaching “Grit & Lag” which will combine the previous three lessons concepts to increase the intensity and connection of your dance . Lesson starts at 7:30pm.

It’s the first week of the month, so the series is free! This month, we’re featuring local legends Catherine Liggett and Rudy Resch. They will be teaching their highly requested series on close embrace to help deal with limited space.

This week, they will be teaching close embrace fundamentals. This is essential for navigating a packed dance floors or house parties. Lesson starts at 7:30pm.

This week is our annual Strictly Competition. The competition will start at 11:00 pm.

August 2013 Week 4: PB&J Strictly Competition &

Birthday Bash!

This week is PB&J’s and Tuesday Blues’ Birthday! We’re going 8 years strong, and to celebrate we’re holding a party. This year’s theme is Super Heroes, so come dressed as your favorite character! There will be cupcakes and Power Punch!


Strictly Competition Prelims:

This week and next week is our annual Strictly Competition. If you want to compete, be at the venue by 9:45 pm to begin registration. You will need to bring a partner to compete. The prelims begin at 10:15 pm in the side ballroom. Finals will be next week at 11:00 pm

This month, national instructor Rachel Stirling will be teaching a follow-centric lesson. “This series strives to bring out the inner badass in every follow and show leads how to encourage, receive, and highlight such badassery. We’ll cover techniques for follows to be totally tuned in to what their lead is suggesting as well as tools for follows to fully express themselves in the dance.”

This week, we will be focusing on how follows can express themselves through isolation, shapes, and listening in close embrace. Lesson starts at 7:30.

This month, national instructor Rachel Stirling will be teaching a follow-centric lesson. “This series strives to bring out the inner badass in every follow and show leads how to encourage, receive, and highlight such badassery. We’ll cover techniques for follows to be totally tuned in to what their lead is suggesting as well as tools for follows to fully express themselves in the dance.”

This week, we will be focusing on how follows can express themselves through turns. Lesson starts at 7:30.

We’ll cover techniques for follows to be totally tuned in to what their lead is suggesting as well as tools for follows to fully express themselves in the dance.”

This week, we will be focusing on how follows can contribute to the dance during compression, tension, and momentum. Lesson starts at 7:30.

This month, Rachel Stirling will be teaching a follow-centric lesson. “This series strives to bring out the inner badass in every follow and show leads how to encourage, receive, and highlight such badassery. We’ll cover techniques for follows to be totally tuned in to what their lead is suggesting as well as tools for follows to fully express themselves in the dance.”

This week will be a relaxed, balanced, grounded movement, focusing on listening to specific elements of connection and movement, and how follows can tweak those elements. Lesson starts at 7:30.

July 2013 Week 5: Live Music & Community Meeting

Live Music: Live Music: Brother Yusef

This week we have a surprise live act. Brother Yusef will be throwing down his powerful one man sound. He has played the Waterfront Blues Festival and Blues Cruises for Portland before, and it’s always been good. You won’t want to miss him.


Community Meeting: Future of Barefoot

This week we will not be having a series lesson. Instead we will be hosting a community meeting on the future of alt blues venue Barefoot Blues along with a major announcement about it. We’ll want to discuss what you want out of the community, what you want changed, and some general Q&A.

The meeting starts at 7:30pm and there will be snacks.

July 2013 Week 4

Series Lesson: Creating Conversation w/ Dustin Henwood

This month, we’re featuring the legend, Dustin Henwood, Portland veteran and founder of the Corvallis Blues Scene. He will be teaching his series, “Creating Conversation”.

This series will teach you how to use tension, release, solo movement, musicality, and other technique to create a dialogue between you and your partner. This week, we’ll be breaking your dance into the fundamental components of a story: exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution.
