Portland, OR

The Portland Blues and Jazz Dance Society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located in Portland, Oregon. PB&J is designed to balance the organizational load of running a dance venue and community Blues events among multiple leaders, as well as give the community a wide range of people to work with. A lateral and consensus-driven organizational structure encourages participation from the community by making organizers accessible, integrated, and individually empowered to affect change.  We exist to create a safe, sustainable, and vibrant Blues and Jazz dance community through the free exchange of ideas, utilization of community knowledge, and promotion by example. PB&J seeks to reignite public interest in partnered dancing and grow Blues as a dance form through the exploration of various styles of movement and promotion of both solo and partnered social dancing.  This organization was created and is run by dancers. We love Blues music and we want you to love it too. Come dance with us!

Waterbottle Policy

Due to OLCC's regulations we cannot allow the use of water bottles within the Bossanova Ballroom during our weekly Tuesday dance. Because this venue has a bar, bringing an open container with alcohol in is both illegal, and could shut down the entire venue. We know many of you are trying to stay environmentally conscious, and that thoughtfulness is one of the reasons our community is so amazing. However there are no exceptions to this rule, and there are no plans to change this in the near future.

We appreciate that you either leave your water bottle at home, in the car, or leave it in the available box at the front table when you show up. If you decide to leave your water bottle with us at the front table, you will not be able to use or access it until you're leaving the venue and you do not plan to return.

Thank you for your understanding and patience!

  • "Do you have reusable cups that we can use at the venue?"

No, we have small plastic cups that you can use as many times throughout the night as you'd like, but they will be thrown away at the end of the dance.

  • "What if I can prove there's no alcohol in my water bottle, could I bring it in and use it just for water?"

No, there are no exceptions to this rule. Because we cannot easily keep track of the people that have proven that they are not bringing alcohol in, versus the people that have decided to sneak a bottle in, we cannot make any exceptions.

  • "Will the bar provide glasses for us to use instead?"

No, the bar only serves purchased alcoholic beverages in reusable glasses for specific drinks. There are upwards of 100-200 hundred people that will show up in a single night, and they cannot provide reusable glasses for everyone that wants one.

  • "But what if -"

No, there really are no exceptions.
